Get to know Kirsteen Scott

by | Dec 29, 2020 | News

Let me introduce myself, I’m Kirsteen Scott the new Marketing Manager for HRN and Agritrac. I started with the company in October and I’m located at the Stirling depot.

It was only fair that I answered some of the ‘Get to know the team’ questions that I had inflicted on other team members – so, here you go, a little about myself.

Tell us a little about your marketing experience?

I have worked in Marketing for over 17 years, 15 of them were spent working in the car industry as part of the marketing team for the UK’s biggest used car dealer, Arnold Clark. It was working for AC that allowed me to gain great insight and experience of many franchises which included, BMW, MINI, Volkswagen, Renault, Hyundai, to mention a few. I was responsible for more than 40 dealerships throughout the UK, so have exceptional knowledge of multi-channel marketing techniques that covers B2C and B2B audiences.

The car industry could be challenging, especially when planned campaigns changed at the last minute which was often the case – but I thrived on this and with my leadership skills I knew that I could rally my team to not only hit tight deadlines, but also devise a campaign that was highly received with a good conversion rate.

There is always something new to learn in marketing, it’s an ever-changing industry – new techniques, new marketing platforms, research. It is essential that I keep developing myself and my knowledge, that will allow me to continue to succeed in marketing.

Why did you want to be part of the team?

It was actually an old work colleague that told me that they had seen a role that they thought would suit me and that I would be very interested in. I was excited by the passion and plans for future growth at HRN and Agritrac. They were looking for a dedicated marketer, who would be able to plan, strategise, and advise on best practices that would help the businesses strive and I knew that with my years of experience in the motor industry, my ability to utilise the full marketing mix for multiple marketing channels, and my understanding of the importance of internal and external communications, I could deliver what they needed.

I really was hungry to be involved and hoped that the job would be offered to me. When I got notification of being the lucky candidate it ignited a little fire and I started planning my strategy – I honestly couldn’t wait to start and be part of the team.

What do you like most about your job role?

There are so many things that I like about my new job, but for me, it has to be meeting my new colleagues – they have all been amazing to me, helping me settle in, putting up with my never-ending questions and requests (even some of the crazy requests), it just has that family team vibe. I’m also loving learning about new brands and the products that we have to offer – it’s quite a large catalogue to learn but it’s a must for creating new and exciting marketing content that will complement our recently refreshed website and social channels.

There are so many ideas that I have – I can’t wait to explore and develop them to create some amazing campaigns that will help grow the business even further.

When you’re not working, how do you relax?

I have been married to Alan for 18 years and we are lucky to have two amazing girls, Kristie who’s 16 and Isla who has just turned 10 and two dogs called Buster and Ozzy – so as you can imagine they all keep me busy!

I also have my dance school, Lacey Brown School of Dance, that I run with my business partner Christine Lacey MBE. We have the opportunity to teach and encourage some of the most amazing kids, including my own girls, to learn, Tap, Ballet, Jazz and Highland dancing. Many of our kids compete, so normally my weekends are filled with travelling to either stage festivals or Highland competitions including all the Highland Games. Sadly this year due to Covid there hasn’t been much competing, but hopefully, we can make up for this in 2021 if all is well.

Last year, I decided that I would set myself some challenges in life, so decided it would be a good idea to participate in the ‘Pedal for Scotland’ event – what was I thinking, cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh does hurt! I’m just glad my bestie, Lori, joined me on that lovely torturous cycle. If that wasn’t tough enough, I decided that I would run my first 10k – only thing is this wasn’t any old 10k this was a ‘Tough Runner’ 10k – it wasn’t pretty, and I was a pretty mess when I crossed that finish line.

I just love to spend time out and about with friends and family, it could be something as simple as a catch up over coffee – actually, I’m not going to lie it’s more often catching up over a glass of something, but life is for living!
